Point and Shoot Digital Cameras — A Basic Guide

What is a point and shoot camera? Well there are a number of these types of cameras out on the market. Basically though, a point and shoot camera is really just a camera that you hold in your hand. Point and shoots usually feature an array of automatic features that make handling them easy — both for the advanced shooter and the complete camera newbie.

You can find Point and Shoot cameras pretty much anywhere that sells electronics. There are a number of brands to buy; the most popular would probably be the Canon brand. Canon actually specializes in a number of different point and shoot cameras. The most popular point and shoot models are probably the Canon Powershot series — there’s a whole range that targets different price points. At the low end you can find canon camears that cost around 100 bucks. At the high end of the canon point and shoot range, you can spend over $500 bucks for the top end point and shoot (Canon G12 say).

There are, of course, plenty of other brands out there like Pentax, Nikon, Optimus, Kodak, and the like. But Canon is the most popular. We’ll have a guide to the different models soon.
